Outstanding Service Award In December 1994 Kevin received one of the few Outstanding Service awards ever issued by Sheriff Jack W. Armstrong when as a reserve deputy Kevin apprehended a male suspect in Kanarado involved in a shooting and battery. Kevin so new at the time had not been issued a gun yet. Armed with only a pair of handcuffs he subdued the suspect who was armed with a pistol at the time. For his heroic efforts Kevin was awarded an outstanding service plaque. |

W.S.U Homeland Security Course In 2002 Kevin attended the Wichita State conference on Ethical Issues in Homeland security. Kevin understands that we still face issues in homeland security here in Northwest Kansas and is dedicated to the protection of our homeland. |

Kansas Sheriff's Association Kevin has been a member of the KSA since 1997. Kevin is proud of his membership in such a dignified organization in which so many fine law enforcement officers are members. |
Kansas Bureau of Investigation Certification Kevin complete his requirements to receive his certification from the KBI on developing and negation of confidential informants. Confidential informants are an important tool in the war on drugs; Kevin is proud of this certification and gives him yet another tool to fight the plague of drug activity in Sherman County.

Kansas Association of Police Chiefs Gold Award In 2001 Kevin was honored with one the highest achievements a Kansas law enforcement officer can receive when he accepted the Gold Award for his valor in service. In October 2001 Kevin was injured in the line of duty. Kevin was injured in the defense of his fellow officers and the citizens of Sherman County in a high speed chase that ended 1 mile East of Goodland on Interstate 70 with the death of the suspect. |

Kansas Narcotics Officers Association Kevin has been a member of the Kansas Narcotics Officers Association since 1997. Kevin regularly attends meetings to become up to date on the most recent advancements in drug use prevention and eradication. |

Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center In 1997 Kevin graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson Kansas. Many of Kevins classmates are now Sheriffs or supervisors themselves which speaks to the first-rate instructors who taught Kevins class. |

Drug Enforcement Administration and US Department of Justice In August 1998 Kevin became certified by the DEA and USDOJ in highway drug interdiction. Kevin knows that many of the drugs brought into Sherman County come from Interstate 70, this certification taught him to know what to look for and how to retrieve illegal narcotics. Kevin has been on the front line of the war on drugs in Sherman County since 1998 when he became certified. |

Kansas Highway Patrol Kinesic Interview Certification In June 2000 Kevin earned his certification from the KHP in the area of Kinesic Interview procedures. This certification has taught Kevin how to recognize subjects being untruthful. This has helped Kevin prosecute individuals who believe they can fool the system. |

Field Training Officer (FTO) For the last four years Kevin has had the honor of training every patrol deputy that has walked the streets of Sherman County. Serving as the Sheriffs office field training officer has given Kevin the opportunity to develop a solid working relationship with the patrol deputies. |
